Concrete Contractor Middleton ID - Driveways, Patios, Sidewalks & Approaches

Nampa Concrete Works pours driveways, patios, walkways and slabs for Middleton homeowners, and handles approaches, sidewalks and flatwork for local businesses. Middleton is about 9 miles north of Nampa in a straight line, and unlike its Ada County neighbors, it manages its own city streets, so its permits work differently.

Middleton Approaches and Sidewalks

Middleton's city code (5-4-11.C) requires the owner to apply for permission before constructing, modifying or repairing any access or driveway onto City right-of-way, in writing on the City's form, with a plan of the whole approach when the City asks for one. The City's FY2026 fee schedule lists:

  • Approach or Sidewalk Modification Permit: $75.
  • Work in Right-of-Way Permit: $75 per day.
  • Right-of-way refundable deposit: $2,000 for a single lot, $4,000 for multiple lots or areas.

For right-of-way work, Middleton's code (7-5-1) also calls for proof of general liability insurance of at least $500,000 personal injury and $1,000,000 aggregate naming the City, and a traffic control plan that follows the Idaho Standards for Public Works Construction and the Middleton Supplement. Middleton is served by State Highway 44, and approaches onto a state highway go through the Idaho Transportation Department's right-of-way permits instead of the City.

The Boise River and Middleton's Floodplain

Middleton is the oldest settlement in Canyon County, with land first parceled out in 1863. In 1872, flooding on the Boise River cut a new channel that left the original town on an island, and the settlement moved to its present site after 1880. The river still shapes building here: Middleton's fee schedule includes a Floodplain Development Permit, listed at $70 per structure when filed with a building permit. If your project also needs a building permit, such as a garage or covered patio, ask the City early whether the lot is in the mapped floodplain.

Ground Conditions

The USDA's Sebree soil series, whose official type location is in Canyon County about 6 miles north of Caldwell, describes a cemented hardpan 20 to 40 inches down with slow permeability above it. Soils like that drain slowly, which is why we pay attention to downspouts, irrigation and slope around every slab. It's also why sealing open joints before winter matters; see crack and joint sealing.

A Fast-Growing Town

Middleton had 2,978 residents in 2000, 5,524 in 2010 and 9,425 in 2020, according to the Census figures on its Wikipedia page. Interstate 84 is three miles west at exit 25, and Star is six miles east on Highway 44. That growth means many driveways, walks and patios were poured since 2000, and the older ones are starting to show settled panels, open joints and worn surfaces.
